Personal vendetta suspected to be reason

The group of about 10 people also attacked Krishnappa and his bodyguard with lethal weapons before escaping.

Two lorries, which were coming with great speed from opposite directions, rammed into Krishnappa’s car. The car turned turtle. Immediately the group  arrived and attacked Krishnappa’s car, firing continuously. One bullet hit Krishnappa on his right hand. His bodyguard Nagendra Rao was injured when he was hit with a machete. When he returned the fire, one of the gang members, Yatish (27) was injured in the head. He later died at Nimhans.

An injured Krishnappa got on to a bike and travelled till Basavanahalli. He took an auto and reached Nelamangala where he got admitted to a private hospital. The incident occurred when Krishnappa was returning after visiting former minister C Chennigappa’s farm house at Bairanayakanahalli. Krishnappa was driving and his bodyguard was sitting by the side. It is said that personal vendetta is could be the reason for the assault.

His supporters staged a protest and held up traffic on national highway for few hours. They withdrew the protest after the police assured them that they would investigate. The town declared a bundh with most of the shops bringing down the shutters on their own. DG Kamalpanth, SP Dr Mahesh, ASP Subhash Gudimani arrived on the scene and took precautionary measures. A large number of Krishnappa’s well-wishers visited the hospital.
