A 34-year-old man has been arrested for carrying 1.25 kg of charas for supply in hotels across the national capital ahead of the New Year, police said Wednesday.

Deepak Chauhan, a resident of Tigri in south Delhi, was arrested Tuesday when police were conducting a foot patrol in Neb Sarai area of south Delhi to keep a check on the activities of smuggling of spurious liquor and snatching.

“At about 3.15 pm, the patrolling party asked Chauhan acting suspicious to stop. Instead, he tried to flee. The alert patrolling party nabbed him after a minor chase,” said Chhaya Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South).

Police recovered 1.25 kg of charas from his bag. During interrogation, he told police that he received the contraband from a person from Bihar, at the New Delhi Railway Station, adding that he was planning to sell it in hotels in Delhi during the New Year.

“Chauhan, married with two children, indulged in smuggling of narcotic substance to earn easy money,” Sharma said.

A case has been registered against Chauhan under section 20/61/85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at the Neb Sarai Police Station.
