A wet New Year dawn is forecast in parts of Karnataka as rains are expected the next two days under the influence of Thane cyclone which has weakened into a deep depression after crossing Tamil Nadu coast today.

The meteorological centre at Bangalore has forecast heavy rains accompanied by wind over the next two days in the west coast, southern and eastern hinterlands of Karnataka after Thane made the landfall on Tamil Nadu coast in Cuddalore district this morning.

"Moderate to heavy rains are expected in the west coast, southern and eastern hinterlands of the state for the next two days," Bangalore Met Director B Puttanna said here. Bangalore would receive moderate rain, while Mandya, Chamrajnagar, Hassan, Ramnagar and Mysore districts would receive heavy rains accompanied by strong winds, he said.

Kolar, Chikaballapur and Tumkur in eastern hinterland would also receive moderate rains, Puttanna said. Parts of Karnataka, including Bangalore, have been experiencing rains since wee hours today.
