Priyanka continues aggressive campaign

Last Updated 04 February 2012, 17:13 IST

Priyanka Gandhi has campaigned in the family pocket borough of Amethi and Raebareli, the two Lok Sabha constituencies represented by her brother Rahul and mother Sonia Gandhi, earlier but her style of campaigning this time is different, according to the Congress leaders and locals.

“She is more aggressive this time and has been attacking opponents without taking names... like her brother, she too is emphasizing development,” said a Congress leader.
Priyanka appears to be in a hurry and has been trying to cover virtually every part of the two constituencies, where polling has been scheduled for February 15 and 19 respectively in the third and fourth phase.

On Friday, when she hit the campaign trail, she covered as many as twenty blocks and addressed eight meetings besides meeting hundreds of people. She also held meetings with party workers and local leaders to discuss poll strategy with them. Priyanka has been receiving good support from the local people, the leaders said. On Saturday, she created a record of sorts by addressing as many as 21 election meetings.

“You have been misguided by different parties, which indulge in the politics of caste and religion...no development has taken place here in the past 22 years,” she said. “The politics of opportunism has ruined the state... give Congress a chance... Rahulji wants to change the state...please support him.”

“Priyanka wants a clean sweep in the two Lok Sabha constituencies and has made it clear to the local party workers,” Congress sources said.

Though Priyanka has hinted that she will confine herself to the twin Lok Sabha constituencies, party leaders and the contestants have been pressing hard for her to have meetings in other places as well.
