State Crime Investigation Department on Saturday arrested Laxman Seth, a former CPI(M) Lok Sabha MP and a main accused in the Nandigram firing incident.

Seth, who was arrested in Mumbai, has been regarded a CPM henchman.

"Seth and two other CPI-M leaders Ashok Guriya- party’s district secretariat member and Amiya Sahoo- former MLA of Panskura in East Midnapore district were arrested from Mumbai today (Saturday). We are trying to produce them in court and seek transit remand for bringing them to West Bengal" State CID, Inspector General (Operations), K Jayaraman said.

“Acting on a tip off that the trio have been hiding in a guest house in Chembur in Mumbai we had sent a team and they have been arrested from there only” Jayaraman added.

CID had filed a chargesheet on January 30 this year against former CPM MP and 87 other party-men in connection with the killing of six members of Trinamool Congress-backed Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee (BUPC), when they were holding a rally at Nandigram against acquisition of land by the state government for a proposed Special Economic Zone.

n the 215-page charge-sheet CID has collected information from 150 people and has taken secret submissions from 14 people. Seth and two others will be brought to Kolkata on transit remand, CID said.
