Two masons were clubbed to death in the City on Wednesday night in two separate incidents.

The bludgeoned body of a middle-aged man was found in a eucalyptus plantation in Bili Shivale area on Thursday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Eshwar, 30 a construction mestri hailing from Gadag. Kothanur Police reported that the body contained severe injuries to the head and chest. The body was sent to Dr Ambedkar medical College for a post-mortem.
According to police, Eshwar had come to the City a month ago from Gadag in search of work. He was living alone in a shed in Tirumenahalli.

It is reported that he had six labourers working under him. Sources also report that he was married, with two children living in Gadag. Last seen alive near his shed on Wednesday evening, it is suspected that Eshwar was murdered at some time during the night. Kothanur Police have registered a case.

Although the investigation is pending, police said that the suspects and motive for murder are unknown.

Second death

In a separate incident, a 65 year-old mason was found beaten to death in Manorayana Palya on Thursday morning. The deceased has been identified as Ganeshappa, from Ranebennur, Haveri.

Working as a mason at a construction site at Manorayana Palya for a week, Ganeshappa had been living with his daughter and son-in-law, Ramesh, in a nearby shed.

When Ganeshappa didn’t return home on Wednesday night, his relatives initiated a search.

His body was found in the basement of the building that he and Ramesh had been working on. Ramesh lodged a complaint at the Hebbal Police Station. The body has been sent for a post-mortem.

Investigating officers said that Ganeshappa’s relationship with his son-in-law had become estranged over Ramesh’s debts. Tensions reportedly escalated after Ganeshappa informed Ramesh’s creditors in Kothanur of his son-in-law’s wherebabouts, leading to a confrontation over the 1.5 lakh debt.

Police suspect that Ramesh played a hand in Ganeshappa’s murder. He has been detained by Hebbal police and is currently being questioned.
