A 26-year-old man was found strangled at his house in Hari Nagar in west Delhi on Wednesday. The victim has been identified as Ashok Kumar, a native of Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh district, police said.

Ashok lived with his cousin Vinod in Manak Vihar and was into milk business. An initial investigation suggests that two persons who were known to Ashok ransacked the house and strangled him while trying to flee with valuables.

Police said he was strangled with a refrigerator cable, and the killers fled with Rs 1.5 lakh and other items.

Additional commissioner of police (west) V Renganathan said the matter came to light when Vinod reached home at 2 pm on Wednesday and found the main door ajar.
“When he went inside, he found Ashok lying unconscious on the floor. He called police immediately,” said Renganathan.

Things were found scattered in the house, hinting to a scuffle between Ashok and the killers.

The body has been preserved at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for a post-mortem. “The exact cause of the death will be clear only after we get the autopsy report. We are also waiting for forensic investigation to finish,” Renganathan added.

Police said a CCTV camera installed at the entry-exit point of Manak Vihar residential colony has captured pictures of the suspects.

“The footage was shown to the victim’s relatives, who identified one of the suspects as Vipin,” a police official said. “Vipin was the victim’s friend,” the official said, adding that the matter appears to be a case of personal enmity.

A case of murder under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code has been filed with Hari Nagar police station.

The incident comes two days after a 20-year-old property dealer, who recently cleared his class 12 examination, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his friend’s house in Ghazipur in east Delhi.

Police are yet to make a breakthrough in the case, and are still looking for the victim’s friend, Shekhar, who is absconding since the incident came to light.
