A series of protests on various issues were taken out by several organisations near the office of the deputy commissioner here on Monday.

Youth Congress activists staged a protest slamming the attack on women and youth at a homestay in Mangalore recently. The protestors said that after BJP government came into power, such incidents had been increasing. They said Hindu organisations had continued to disrupt peace in the society. District in-charge minister C T Ravi, chief minister and home minister are failing to take any action against the culprits, they said.

Youth Congress district unit president Fazil Khan, member Mohan Anand, Deepak and others were present.

Dowry death alleged

Relatives of Suneetha, wife of soldier Sunil Kumar, demanded a probe into the death of the former, who allegedly committed suicide at Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh. They alleged that Sunil had murdered Suneetha for dowry.

Suneetha’s relatives said that Sunil Kumar of Adagur in Halebeedu had married Suneetha last year. Sunil was a soldier and serving at Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh. He was allegedly given a site as dowry, Rs one lakh and 150 gram gold at the time of marriage. However, he continued to harass Suneetha for more dowry. Hombalamma demanded a probe into the death of her daughter. As Hassan police had failed to register a case, relatives of Suneetha staged a protest in front of the deputy commissioner’s office.

Land grabbing

Residents staged a protest alleging that a few influential persons had grabbed land belonging to Virupaksha Temple located behind Dharmastala Ayurveda Hospital. They demanded the deputy commissioner to take immediate action against the culprits.

About eight acres and 16 guntas of land at survey number 234 and 232 belonged to the Muzrai department. There are revenue documents as proof. However, tahsildhar has changed the Khata illegally. The order should be cancelled immediately and return it to the original owners, they demanded.

Channakeshavegowda, Appajigowda, Thimmamma, Manjamma and others were present.
