Asian Games gold medallist athlete Pinki Pramanik who was accused of raping a woman, has resumed work at Sealdah Railway Station after the Eastern Railway revoked her suspension.

“This is in a way a victory for me. I have been able to prove that I was a victim of a greater conspiracy.  A job is important but it is more important to restore my tarnished image,” Pinki told Deccan herald.

“I am relieved the railways have reinstated me. I owe this to the support I received from the people of Kolkata. I am grateful to the railways and I have joined duty today after nearly 56 days,” Pinki said.

“All my colleagues are very supportive and they have not only stood beside me during my troubled days but made me feel comfortable and at home here. They have showed tremendous respect to and some of them even took my photographs,” Pinki said.

When asked whether she would try to punish the people responsible for her condition, Pinki said, “I have appealed to the Human Rights Commission and I shall fight to find out the people responsible for my condition and punish them”.

According to an Eastern Railway official, the suspension was revoked after Pinki submitted the copy of her bail order.

“As per the central government rule, one is deemed to be suspended after 48 hours of custody. But after getting a bail, she appealed and the suspension was revoked,” he said.

The Eastern Railway, with which Pinki is a ticket collector, suspended her soon after she was remand in judicial custody.
