If you mention Bidita Bag to a Bengali man, you will notice a twinkle in his eyes. The young and beautiful actress has made her mark in Tollywood with films like Kagojer Nouka and is ready to make her commercial debut in the Hindi film industry with Prateek Chakravorty’s production ‘From Sydney with Love’.

“Last year, Prateek got in touch me with on Facebook and gave me a film proposal. I thought someone was playing a prank but I replied anyway. I asked him for the synopsis and screenplay, which he sent promptly.

I read it and just loved it,” shares Bidita, who did not even have to audition for the role
because the director had seen her earlier work and was confident that she was the right choice.

“After I signed the film, I got to know Ssharad Malhotra (a co-actor) who is also from Calcutta. The director’s also from there, so we were like one big Bengali gang on and off set,” she laughs.

She has done a fair share of modelling, has acted in many political films in Bengali and is finally venturing into the lighter genre of family comedy.

“It’s a personal story – a slice of my character Meghaa’s life and how she gets accustomed to a new city and a different culture. We’ve got all the sentiments in one film. While it is targeted at youngsters, those who are old and go to watch it were young once and will be able to relate to it.

Plus, we’re showing two unique cultures in it — Sydney and West Bengal,” explains the young actress. “We don’t have any stars in this film but we hope that it makes us future stars,” she adds, with genuine optimism.

She is not at all unfamiliar with Bangalore and says that she loves the culture here.
“I love coming here – the roads are clean, buildings are nice and people are sowell-educated. I’ve done sari and jewellery commercials here. My hoardings were up everywhere! After watching this film, I hope Bangaloreans love me,” says Bidita with a grin.
