Last Updated 26 September 2012, 18:15 IST

A man was found dead, hanging on a tree at Aloor village of Nada Gram Panchayat in Kundapur taluk on Wednesday.

However, foul play is suspected behind the death as the taxi run by the victim was damaged and the clothes he wore were torn indicating assault before death.

According to police, the deceased has been identified as Yogesh Ganiga (28), a taxi driver by profession. When Yogesh's mother Gulabi Ganiga could not trace her son as his cell phone was not reachable, she approached police on Tuesday.

The deceased was found dead under mysterious circumstances hanging with his own trouser. The damaged taxi parked on the other side of the road and torn clothes on the body have raised suspicions over the possibilities of murder.

Kundapur DySP Yoshoda Shirboor told Deecan Herald that the post mortem report has revealed hanging as the cause of death.

However, investigation is under progress on the causes that led to the death. “It is only after that we will be able to decide whether the death is murder or suicide,” she said.

A case is registered in Gangolli police station.
