Last Updated 17 October 2012, 18:21 IST

A probe will be conducted by a senior officer on allegations of Deputy Superintendant of Police Srihari Baragur assaulting a brick kiln worker said Central Zone IGP Amarkumar Pandey.

He spoke reacting to protests and other developments in the City regarding sand mining issue.

He said that action will be taken against the guilty, based on the findings of the probe.
IGP met Sadique Pasha, who was allegedly assaulted by the DySP, at SNR Hospital late in the evening on Tuesday and collected information from him. But he refused to give any statement regarding this, as sadique was still in the judicial custody.

“Protests have been held in the City, alleging the DySP has assaulted a worker. But it has come to our notice that some persons have also attacked the officers who went to check on sand mining. These issues do not usually come out during public protests. But the matter of attacking an officer will be considered seriously,” he said.

‘Complaint lodged’

“Allegations made by major political parties will also be considered. Moreover, tahsildar has lodged a complaint that a police officer was assaulted. The matter of police officers refusing to file the complaint by Sadique’s wife, against the DySP, will also be taken into consideration,” he added.

He also said that onus of checking illegal sand mining does not lie only on the police department, but even other departments are also responsible for it.
