Vendors least worried over bird flu

The reports over outbreak of avian influenza appears to have had no effect on the bird vendors in the City.

During a reality check, Deccan Herald found people selling and consuming chicken without any fear. “The bird flu rumour does its rounds every year. We are used to it now,” said Farooq, a vendor. He said he had never come across anyone falling sick after consuming chicken.

A vendor at Shahid Poultry in Shivajinagar said customers use the opportunity to buy chicken at cheap rates. He said they have a veterinary doctor at their poultry farm in Hoskote, who checks infected birds and there was no chance of infected birds reaching the shop.
