People expect a lot from civil servants: President

President Pranab Mukherjee Saturday told a group of new IAS officers that civil servants are required to shoulder huge responsibilities in view of the rising expectations of the public.

A group of 36 Officers undergoing the 112th Induction Training Programme for State Civil Service Officers, promoted to the IAS, called on President Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

While congratulating the trainee officers on their promotion to the IAS, the president said they would need to widen their perspective and approach on various issues.

"The President said the concept of governance and the character and  dimension of administration has changed substantially over the years.  With the rising expectations of the public, civil servants are required to shoulder huge responsibilities," said a statement from Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The officers are undergoing a two month Induction Training Programme at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie.
