Cultural potpourri

Sadvidya College has organised various competitions under ‘Sangeetha Sadvidya 2012’ from November 22 at Vivekananda Hall at its premises in the city.

On November 21, contests like classical dance, mono acting, folk songs, bhavageethe, classical music, quiz, English debate and rapid chess have been organised in different intervals. Following day, classical music instruments and film songs have been organised.

The top scorer in music competitions will be conferred K Venkateshaiah Sharadamma memorial overal trophy. Principal of the college Prof K V Satyan has instituted the trophy in memory of his parents. 

The winner in English debate will be conferred C N Vaidyanathan memorial overal trophy, while in the rapid chess V R Muralidhar memorial overal trophy will be conferred. The trophy has been instituted by the chairman of Chemistry department Y R Ramesh in memory of his brother, said a release.


Bharatanatya rangapravesham of Apoorva Akki Hebbal is organised on November 23 at 6 pm at Sarada Vilas Centenary Hall in the city.”

Actor Mandya Ramesh of famous Natana theatre troupe, Prof J S Kiran from Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE) and registrar of Dr Gangubai Hanagal Music and Performing Arts University, Mysore Prof M Basavanna will be the guests of honour.


Apoorva is the disciple of renowned dancer vidushi Kripa Phadke of Nrityagiri Academy of Performing Arts and Research Centre, Srirampura in the city. She is the daughter of A R Balashekhar and Sarvamangala couple. She began to practice at the tender age of three and has completed senior grade in bharathanatyam. She is also practicing carnatic classical music from vidushi Bhagyalakshmi. She is pursuing BA in dance in the afore said music university, said a release.
