Seven more booked for illegal sand mining

Continuing with their operation against illegal sand mining, district police have booked seven persons and have seized two motor boats and a heavy vehicle on Wednesday.

Acting on the information from senior geologist, department of mines and geology, Y V Anand and  tahsildar of Nanjangud Manjunath Swamy, superintendent of police R Dileep swung into action.  A police team led by sub-inspector Hanumantharaju attached to Nanjangud rural station raided on a patta land (Survey number 1209/1A) and seized a motor boat used to suck sand from the river bed. Upon investigation, the name of one of three accused was learnt as Bhavani Shankar son of T Nanjaiah, Shankarapura, Nanjangud. 

While the name of the remaining two; owner of the boat and also the land is yet to be ascertained. In another case, the same police  recovered  a motor boat and a heavy vehicle from survey number 1207/1 patta land in Kasaba hobli, Nanjangud village. Four are booked in the case and one among them is identified as Krishna son of late Srikante Gowda of Nanjangud.

Explosives seized

Sargur police at H D Kote have arrested one person for illegally transporting explosives and other chemicals in an Ape autorickshaw on Wednesday. The arrested has been identified as Chikkanna, 54, a resident of Santhemala, Saragur.

Police have seized detonator danger explosives and chemicals from the accused. A case has been registered.
