With an aim to bring all exam-related work under one roof, Mangalore University will construct 'Pariksha Bhavan'.

The new building will comprise all departments related to examinations and also the office of Registrar of Evaluation.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor Professor T C Shivashankaramurthy said that the University now holds the evaluation work in its constituent colleges and the tabulation process in a different place. Once the Bhavan comes up, the process will be easier and quicker as  the evaluation, tabulation and computerisation will be under one roof.

The building will come up on the land in between the University’s indoor stadium and Netravathi guest house, said the VC and added that an e-tender has been floated.
The contract will be awarded to the lowest bidder after two months.

The building will have three floors and a cellar. All exam answer booklets will be stored in the cellar, he adds.

The work on the Rs 22-crore building will be taken up in two phases.

“We have plans to shift most of the offices after the first phase work, that will be next year. If all goes well we may have the new Bhavan in two years time,” said the VC.
Athletic track

The work on the 400-m athletic track has already started. Work on 30,000 cubic sq metres is complete and 70,000 cubic sq metres is remaining. The Rs four-crore ground may be ready by July 2013, said the Vice Chancellor.

“Once the track is ready, Mangalore University students can practice on the athletic track. All athletic competitions will be organised on the campus. At present, the university has to depend on its constituent colleges to host inter-collegiate and inter-university athletics meets. The new facility will help the university to organise training camps for student excelling in athletics,” he added.
