Sand policy affecting many

Last Updated 25 December 2012, 18:08 IST

Secretary of MCC and Vani Vilas Water Works Contractors Association, Shivanne Gowda on Tuesday said that exclusive sand policy for the district is doing more harm than good.

Addressing media in the city, Shivanne Gowda said that the policy is putting common man to contractors and also the construction industry into hardship.

Insufficient

In the existing system, only one permit for each lorry is allowed collecting 200 to 300 loads of sand per day.

Still, it is insufficient to a city like Mysore, as there is a demand for 1000 to 1,500 loads per day.

If the situation continues the same, it will be difficult to carry out the works.

Meanwhile, Mysore City Local Lorry Owners Association has announced to continue with their strike.

Addressing media, president of the association B Revanna laid down his demands as follows; providing two permits for each lorry, stop the sand that is being transported illegally, revise the cost as the diesel price has increased twice after the implementation of sand policy.

He also warned of suspending the services of other construction materials too.
