CBI probe into graft by US firms

Last Updated 14 October 2009, 19:52 IST

The probe by the CBI is based on a letter said to have been written by Indian envoy to US Meera Shankar who named several departments involved in accepting bribes.

One of the investigations covers the Union agriculture ministry while in others, internal inquiries are on. Shankar’s letter was received by the government on May 12, 2009.

The letter reportedly contained details of seven instances of corruption involving US companies.

These pertained to alleged corruption that took place during the term of BJP-led NDA. The amount of bribe in all the cases was to the tune of $2,00,000.
