A day after a legislator and his wife were assaulted in a super-fast train, armed miscreants shot a jeweller and looted gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 33 lakh from him in Bihar’s Saran district.

The jeweller, Uday Kumar, was returning to Chapra from Surat in Gujarat in the Rapti-Sagar Express, along with four friends, when the marauders attacked him. He was rushed to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) in a critical condition.

Meanwhile, five railway employees, who had allegedly thrashed BJP MLA Shivesh Kumar and molested his wife on the Danapur-Howrah Express, were suspended on Monday. They have been identified as Pankaj Sinha, Ajay, Jitendra and Akhilesh (TTEs) and Saurabh Singh (booking clerk), said Amitabh Prabhakar, Chief Public Relation Officer of ECR.
