Municipal polls: Tickets to popular workers, says Muniyappa

Party workers who have good rapport with the people and popular in their respective wards would be preferred in giving election tickets, said Union Minister K H Muniyappa.

Addressing a gathering of party workers here on Sunday, he said core committees to select the candidates will be set up and the process will be transparent.

Sub-committees

Besides, four sub-committees  will be set up in wards to gather public opinion about the canddates and decision will be taken according to the sub-committee’s report, he added.
Former minister Naseer Ahmed said prior to Assembly election workers should conduct a study of all the 35 wards and study the people’s pulse for the upcoming urban local body elections.

Mulbagal

A list of eligible candidates of the JD(S) party for the elections to 27 wards of the Town Municipal Council will be out in three days, said Taluk JD(S) president Alangur Shivanna.
He was speaking after inaugurating a JD(S) party office at Thyagaraja Colony on Mulbagal recently.

Panel to select

Soon a committee will be formed to choose the candidates, said Shivanna.
As many as 11 leaders have submitted applications for tickets to contest in the forthcoming Assembly elections. The same will be submitted to the party High Command. A screening committee comprising 30 members will be set up to screen the applications and forward it to the High Command, he said.

Frequent meetings

To strengthen grama panchayats, public meetings will be conducted often. However, this will be held after the completion of elections to the Town Municipal Council.
In a few days, SC/ST units, minorities and backward classes units will be set up, Shivanna added.
