Parties take resort route to finalise list

With a day left to file nominations to elections for 65 wards to Mysore City Corporation (MCC) scheduled on March 7, a whopping 155 nominations were received on Friday taking the total number of nominations filed to 198.

However, top leaders of all the three prominent political parties were huddled at resorts and hotels on the outskirts on Friday. The last day to file papers is February 23.

Hectic activities were witnessed at a resort in Srirangapatna where opposition leader Siddaramaiah led Congress leaders were put up to finalise the list of candidates. The process began according to assembly wise, with four constituencies coming under MCC limits. Beginning from Chamundeshwari, the leaders scrutinised the list of aspirants. It didn’t take much time to  clear the list of Chamundeshwari with only three wards of the total 65 wards coming under the very belt. The process was continued with Chamaraja, Krishnaraja and Narasimharaja.

Siddaramaiah was closeted with observers for the polls former minister Sageer Ahmed and Shafiullah, Mysore and Kodagu MP A H Vishwanath, Mysore District (City) Congress committee president C Dasegowda, president of Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress
Committee Rizwan Arshad, former MLA M K Somashekar, former Mayor Vasu and others.
According to sources, almost all the sitting corporators will be issued tickets, barring a few new faces, considering the party workers opinion.

Similarly the leaderships of BJP and JD(S), that has taken the same stand had left for safe places, away from hustle and bustle of the city to take a call on candidates. The final list is expected to be announced in the wee hours, the aspirants of all the three parties said.
