Just days after the brutal killing of a circle officer in Pratapgarh district, another DSP found himself at the receiving end as he was allegedly assaulted by a Samajwadi Party office- bearer and his goons inside the district court premises in Gorakhpur.

Circle officer of Bansgaon in Gorakhpur district Vijay Shankar Mishra had gone to the court in connection with a case when the city president of the party’s legal wing Amit Shukla and his supporters assaulted him on Wednesday.

Shukla and his goons roughed up Mishra, snatched his cap and tore his uniform, according to police officers. They chased him when he ran towards the chamber of a judicial magistrate to save himself.

Mishra could be rescued only after senior police officers rushed to the court premises with a large posse of security personnel after they learnt about the incident.

Sources said Shukla held a grudge against Mishra after the latter had prevented SP leader from forcibly grabbing a shop in Barhalganj area in the district a few months ago.
Police have registered a case against Shukla and nine other lawyer supporters of his.
“We are investigating the matter,” said district police chief D K Chaudhary.

The lawyers, however, said the police officers misbehaved with them and went on a flash strike demanding action against them. They have threatened to intensify their agitation if the circle officer was not transferred from Bansgaon. They have also lodged a counter FIR in this regard.

Earlier also, SP leaders have been accused of assaulting government officials.
A few months ago, minister for secondary education Vinod Singh alias Pandit Singh had abducted a senior medical officer in Gonda district after the latter had refused to issue appointment letters to the candidates recommended by the minister.
