<p>“The SPCBs should monitor the units (in SEZ) which are recycling/ reprocessing imported waste on a regular basis, take action against violations and keep the ministry informed,” the Environment Ministry which wants efficient implementation of the Hazardous Waste Rules, 2008, said in a circular.<br /><br />India does not allow import of hazardous waste for disposal. Import of waste is allowed only for recycling or recovery or reuse.<br /><br />“It is felt that the officers of the SPCBs should attend these meetings and assist the Development Commissioners in ensuring compliance of the environmental regulations...,” the circular added.</p>
