Blood donors feted

  At the silver jubilee function, BMST felicitated individuals and blood donation organisations here on Thursday.

Among the individual donors who were honoured, K V Venkatesh had given blood 154 times, R Kamakshidurai 83 times, Keshava Narayana 70 times, Srinivas N Bahadur 56 times, Gajendran 49 times, Perumal 25 times and Deepa Nandaswamy 18 times. A total of 233 organisations were also felicitated on the occasion.

BMST was formed in 1984 which was initially set up to provide blood-banking services and has now evolved with laboratory facilities, services, training and research. In the year 2008 BMST collected a record of 25,000 units of blood.

BMST will now set up a Tissue Bank, which will collect process and provide bone and amniotic membrane. A dedicated, phenotyped donor bank for patients with Thalassemia, cancer etc is being set up. A pilot project was initiated to set up a Stem Cell Donor Registry in 2008 and so far 4000 people have registered to support patients requiring bone marrow transplant.

KSRTC men honoured

Rotary Club of Cantonment gave away “The Vocational Excellence Awards” to five deserving members with the finest track records from different parts of the State belonging to Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC). Conductors Rajaram from Chikmaglur and D L Channabasappa from Arsikere, drivers Madappa from Anekal division, Muniyappa, a driver from Bangalore Central division and Traffic Controller V Narasimha from Bangalore were honoured on the occasion.

These recipients were selected from the scores of employees of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) from all over Karnataka. The award carries a certificate of recognition and a memento.
