Pushpalatha, the third daughter of Sheshagiriappa, and her husband Rahul Das and their only child were brutally murdered by unidentified assailants.

Many of the family members vividly recalled how Rahul Das, who is a Bengali, had married Pushplatha, who had just completed PUC, in a true filmi-style.
At a wedding

Rahul, an interior decorator, had met Pushpalatha, who had worked at KMC hospital in Manipal for five years, at a wedding. Pushpalatha was attending her friend Chitra's wedding while Rahul was part of the bridegroom's group. It was a love at first sight type of marriage. Rahul liked Pushpalatha and after getting his parents' consent sought the help of Chitra's husband to make a formal proposal to Pushapalatha's parents--Sheshagiriappa and Nagaveni.

The marriage was conducted in Bangalore. Rahul began to steadily grow in his career after his marriage and they had a daughter--Agnesha.

Rahul had purchased three acres of land near Hebbailu in Sagar taluk last year as Agnesha was very fond of the lush green environment. Pushpalatha used to frequent her native often with daughter Agnesha.

Missed Deepavali

However, as Rahul sister's family visited them in Bangalore and as they had to go on tour to Rameshwara and Kanyakumari, Pushpalatha could not visit her native for Deepavali, this time. 'If only the family had visited us for Deepavali, they would have not been murdered," rued Vindya, niece of Pushpalatha.

Rahul's father K K Das had contacted Ganapathi, Pushpalatha's brother on Thursday and had informed that mobile phones of both Rahul and his daughter-in-law were switched off. He was in turn told that they had not visited the village either.

A brother of Rahul, who was residing in Bijapur contacted his father K K Das to ascertain the whereabouts of his brother's family. On knowing this, a worried Ganapthi sent his son Manu to Bangalore. Manu and K K Das later filed a complaint with the police.
The bodies were found when the police went to the residence fo Rahul. "With these three deaths all seems to be lost in our family," said Vindya with tears in her eyes.
