Ashwathappa is Bagepalli TP president

D N Ravindra Reddy has been unanimously elected vice-president.
The post of president for the third term was reserved for an SC/ST, while that of vice-president was reserved for a general candidate. Ashwathappa, the Taluk Panchayat member from Yallampalli was elected president. D N Ravindra Reddy of Billur, who was denied the post of vice-president on the last two occasions, was elected.
The party-wise break-up of seats in the Taluk Panchayat is: Congress - 10; JD(S) - 3, and CPM-2.
When the timetable for the polls was published by sub-divisional officer G V Seenappa, JD(S)’ Sugunamma, (Pulgal constituency) and Sudhakar Reddy (Chakavelu constituency) had filed their nominations for the posts of president and vice-president respectively.
Holding the polls seemed to be inevitable. However, both the candidates withdrew their nominations at the last minute. As a result, the new president and vice-president were declared elected unopposed.
