RIL inks Rs 12k-crore tower pact with RCom to roll out pan-India 4G

Last Updated 07 June 2013, 21:08 IST

Mukesh Ambani-controlled Reliance Jio Infocomm has signed a Rs 12,000-crore tower sharing deal with Anil Ambani-controlled Reliance Communications (RCom) for an accelerated roll out of 4G services across the country.

In a statement issued on Friday, Reliance Communications said: “Under the terms of the agreement, Reliance Jio Infocomm will utilise upto 45,000 ground and rooftop-based towers across RCom’s nationwide network for accelerated roll-out of its state-of-the-art 4G services.”

It provides for joint working arrangements to configure the scope of additional towers to be built at new locations to ensure deep penetration and seamless delivery of next generation services.

This agreement follows the Rs 1,200 crore inter-city optic fiber sharing agreement already signed in April 2013 as part of a comprehensive framework of business co-operation between Reliance Jio and RCom.

It may be noted that Reliance Jio Infocomm is the only company which had in 2010 won a pan-India spectrum for 4G services but is yet to start commercial services.
Meanwhile, shares of RComm trading 1.40 per cent lower at Rs 116.40, while RIL quoted 0.97 percent lower closing at Rs 784.60 this day.
