The six Syndicate members of Bangalore University whose membership was recalled before their tenure ended, have filed a writ petition in the High Court of Karnataka.

A member, who requested anonymity, said it was for the first time in the history of Bangalore University Syndicate that the government had recalled the members before the completion of their tenure.

“Any allegation against the members has to be inquired into before taking a decision to recall them. Political intentions cannot dictate decisions in an academic environment, the member said. The petition filed on Thursday has been admitted by the High Court.

K V Acharya, D S Krishna, C K Jagadish Prasad, Zaheeda Mulla, Manasa Nagabhushanam and T H Srinivasaiah were recalled as Syndicate members while their term comes to an end on October 27. The government communicated its decision to the University on June 15.
