Girl, mother stripped, paraded in UP village

 
According to police sources here, the incident occurred in the Kalyanpur village of the district on Thursday night after a girl eloped with a youth from the same village.

Later, the panchayat decided to step up efforts to trace the duo, but angry relatives of the girl’s family refused to abide by the decision.

They barged into the house of the youth, dragged his sister and mother out, paraded them in the street, stripped them and assaulted them, sources said.

The hapless women could be rescued only after some passersby intervened and informed the police.
A case had been registered at the Narnauli police station and the matter was being investigated, sources added.

Villagers assaulting and often murdering youth for falling in love and later marrying people without the consent of their family are quite common in the western region of UP.
