Man crushed to death in escape bid

 In a bid to escape from custody, a 25-year-old man lost his life accidently after he came under the wheels of a truck at west Delhi’s Hari Nagar. Two police officers were suspended for the mishap and have been sent to District Lines for dereliction of duty.

Ravi, a resident of Nepal, was picked up from Rajouri Garden in west Delhi on September 20 after residents made a call at the police control room that he was strolling in the residential at 11 pm and targeting vehicles for theft.

Police reached the spot and picked him for suspicious activity as he did not provide credible answers for visiting the area.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Abhinandan apprehended Ravi and reached at the police post in Rajouri Garden. After questioning, Ravi could not provide his proper identity and avoided police’s questions.

On Saturday morning, Abhinandan asked Constable Kuldeep, who was on duty, to take Ravi for a medical examination at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital in Hari Nagar. Kuldeep took Ravi on his motorcycle but near the hospital, when Kuldeep slowed, Ravi tried to flee taking the opportunity. He jumped off and started running towards the opposite side of the road.

Kuldeep too left his bike and ran behind Ravi but before he could nab him, Ravi accidently came under the wheels of a JCB. He was rushed to a hospital but doctors declared him brought dead.

“A truck hit him and he died on the spot,” said a police officer, adding trucker Nafe Singh was arrested and the truck was impounded.

Abhinandan and Kuldeep were suspended and a departmental inquiry has been initiated against them, added the officer.

Ravi’s body has been preserved at the hospital mortuary for a post-mortem and his relatives and family members have been informed.
