Gold throne to bloom in yellow; to be decked with one lakh roses

The Curzon Park, here, is getting prepared for one of the major crowd  pulling events of Dasara festivities -- Dasara Flower Show, where the replica of the famous ‘Golden Throne’ (Rathna Simhasana) of the Amba Vilas Palace, to be displayed this year.

Last year, the show had ‘Ane Gaadi’ made up with roses and other flowers. This year, as many as one lakh roses (most of them yellow) along with orchids and other flowers will be used for the throne.

ZP CEO P A Gopal, who is also President of the Dasara Flower Show sub-committee, said that to encourage and educate visitors about urban horticulture among people, various displays regarding vertical gardening, terrace gardening will be set up on the premises of the park. As many as 8,500 different varieties of flowers in the pots will decorate the archs and the pyramid structures. There will also be a butterfly structure on the stump.

With various organisations, companies participating in the flower show, the park will have a total of 75,000 to 80,000 flowering and vegetable plants.

The event will also have exotic vegetable plants of European countries. Those interested in gardening can also get tips on soil conservation, tray gardening aside from growing vegetables, flowers and ornamental flowers, etc, from experts. Photography and Bonsai trees competition has been organised for women. Disclosing this to media persons here on Tuesday, Gopal said that on the lines of China, the pyramid form on vertical garden will be introduced for first time in dasara. About 8,500 varieties of flowers, show plants will be displayed on the occasion. The event will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on October 5 at 4 pm.  The entry fee will be Rs 15 for elders and Rs five for children, this year.
