“Artistes should give justice to the art form. An artiste should uphold his dignity and honour through his act,” said Bangalore Development Authority Commissioner T Sham Bhatt.

Speaking at the valedictory of 11-day workshop on Kannada literature and Yakshagana organised by the Kannada Development Authority, Thenkithittu Yakshagana Hitharakshana Vedike, at Sullia on Sunday, he said “artistes of a calibre get recognition. The Kannada Development Authority has widened the scope of  Yakshagana through such workshop.”

Edaneeru Mutt seer Keshavananda Bharathi said “Yakshagana is a rich art form. There is a need to enrich the legacy of the art form by preserving it for the future generation.”

Balipa Narayana Bhagavatha was conferred with ‘Ajja Balipa Bhagavatha’ award on the occasion.

Speaking after accepting the award,  Narayana Bhagavathasaid “artistes are lured with money. The traditional art form of Yakshagana should continue. Yakshagana was an independent art form. Now, Yakshagana is time bound. People who take keen intrest in visiting  temple fair and cock fight gamble are not showing intrest in Yakshagana,” he said.

In his presidential address, MLA S Angara said “Yakshagana should be a continous programme. All of us should work towards conserving the art form.”

Thenkuthittu Yakshagana Hitharakshana Vedike   treasurer Jaganmohan Rai Markanja, and others were present.
