The State Government’s efforts to build a Women’s Degree College after bifurcating the Government Maharani’s Arts and Commerce College got further push on Wednesday, with Higher Education Minister R V Deshpande inspecting the site identified for the purpose at Paduvarahalli.

Speaking to the media after inspecting the site, Desphande said the existing college off JLB road dates back to the period of the rule of erstwhile Wadiyars. To create more facilities for the students, the Commerce and MBA college will be shifted to the new building at Paduvarahalli, after the works are completed. A girl’s hostel will come up behind Nanjaraj Bahadur Choultry on Vinobha Road.

Revenue and District in-charge Minister V Sreenivas Prasad who was accompanying Deshpande clarified that the site had been finalised and hence there was no change in plans.

Earlier, a group of locals met the Minister opposing the proposed project
