Man stabs wife to death

A man stabbed his wife to death suspecting her fidelity, at their house in Medar Block  near Bamboo Bazaar in Mandi police limits on Tuesday night.

Sowmya (24), wife of Naveen, alias Nandi is the victim. Naveen, a barber by profession stabbed his wife with a knife in her chest and abdomen at around 10.30 pm. He then latched the door from inside, along with his wife’s body in a pool of blood. He however fled along with his two children, when his brother-in-law Venkatesh broke open the door.

Sowmya, daughter of Prakash and Meena couple, had married Naveen, son of Nataraj and Nirmala couple, a decade ago. The couple have two children Dileep and Nishu.
The relatives alleged that Naveen who was working with a barber in Agrahara, had fallen prey to bad habits. He would return home everyday in an inebriated condition, and pick up quarrel with his wife.

On Tuesday morning Naveen and Sowmya, accompanied by their in-laws, had gone to Sowmya’s grandmother’s place in Mandya. Naveen returned to Mysore early, leaving behind his wife and children. Sowmya returned home at around 9 pm along with her brother Venkatesh.

Naveen entered into a wordy duel with his wife for coming late, and in a fit of rage stabbed her with a knife in his possession. Venkatesh who was playing with his nephew and niece outside, heard the screams of his sister. He ran towards the house only to find it locked. He later broke open the door and found his sibling in a pool of blood. He rushed her to K R Hospital, where she was declared brought dead.

Mandi police who were informed about the incident launched a manhunt to nab Naveen. Around midnight, police found Naveen fleeing along with his children near Highway Circle. He was subsequently arrested.
A murder case has been booked against Naveen.
