A 25-year-old man allegedly stabbed two security guards at the Vanivilas Hospital on Thursday evening after they denied him permission to visit his wife, who had delivered a stillborn baby hours earlier in the hospital, unless he produced the visitor’s card.

Mansur, a resident of Avalahalli, had rushed to the hospital to visit his wife after he learnt that she delivered a stillborn baby. But the security guards — Ramachandra, 32 and Krishnagowda, 27 — refused to let him in unless he produced the visitor’s card. Mansur tried to reason with them, saying he did not have the visitor’s card.

The security guards, however, did not budge, saying they do not know him. They said that unidentified people had been entering the hospital and stealing newborn babies. Such incidents have been on the rise and hence they cannot let him in, they told Mansur.

A furious Mansur then took out a knife and stabbed Ramachandra in the cheek and Krishnagowda in the chest. He then fled the spot. The incident reportedly occurred around 8.30 pm.  “The security guards were treated immediately. They are out of danger,” said H S Revanna, DCP (South).
