Chain snatchers have a field day

In a span of one hour, chain snatchers went on a robbery spree striking four women in the city on Saturday early hours. The booty is estimated to be Rs 5.75 lakh.

K Jayanthi, aged 50 years, milk centre road, sixth main, first stage, Vishweshwaranagar was drawing rangoli in front of her house around 6.40 am, when two bike-borne youth in the age group of 20-25 years relieved her of her mangalsutra worth Rs 1.25 lakh. Mahalakshmi wife of Ravikumar, 50 years, and resident of 11th main, Ramamandira road, ‘E’ block, J P Nagar was robbed of a part of her chain worth Rs 1.50 lakh. 

Venkatalakshmi K V, wife of Anandamurthy, aged 60 years was cleaning the pavement in front of her house on 25th cross, 12th main, ‘D’ block in J P Nagar around 6.30 am, when two bike-borne youths robbed her of Rs two lakh worth chain weighing 72 grams. 

At another case registered in K R police limits, a woman hailing from Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh was on foot when she was relieved of Rs one lakh worth mangalstura near Lakshmi theatre on Renuka Temple street. 

Ratna, wife of Sampath is a native of Gandhinagar, Hemmiganur in Kurnool. She had arrived in the city to attend a ceremony. She was walking with her aunt Seethalakshmi towards the bus stand to head towards Srirangapatna at around 6.20 am, when a youth yanked off her chain. Though Ratna resisted by holding on to the chain, she could retain only the pendant, losing a major part of the valuable. Police have released the sketches of the suspects.
