Ramaswami DeviShree Guruji, who absconded after his alleged sex scandal emerged, was picked up by police along the Tamil Nadu border on Tuesday.

A special team of HSR Layout police tracked him down near Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu. He would be brought to Bangalore and is likely to be arrested on Wednesday, police said.Police would question him about an alleged life threat he gave to his car driver.

He would also be questioned about his alleged involvement in some cheating and theft cases.

The self-styled godman had disappeared after television news channels broadcast a video by CCTV cameras inside his ashram in HSR Layout, which showed him in a compromising position with unidentified women.

Activists of pro-Kannada organisations protested outside his ashram and demanded action against him. His driver Vasanth is said to have obtained the footage and blackmailed him. He demanded Rs 10 lakh, but DeviShree paid him Rs five lakh.

But Vasanth demanded more money, which DeviShree refused. Vasanth then leaked the video and made a complaint against him on Sunday.
