A 21-year-old maid was murdered, allegedly by another servant, at the house of a retired IAS officer who is currently serving as a consultant with the Election Commission.

Servant Girish, 31, who chose not to flee from the house after the crime has been arrested.

The woman was also found without her clothes. A senior police officer told Deccan Herald that investigations are on whether the servant tried to force himself on her or she was disrobed in a possible scuffle prior to her death.

Rape not ruled out

“Although it doesn’t look like the woman was raped. We are awaiting the post-mortem report. But the servant probably did not have much time to rape, even if he intended to. The retired IAS officer’s mother had gone to the washroom when the murder took place and that did not leave him with much time,” said Sanjay Beniwal, Joint Commissioner of Police (Eastern Range).

Retired IAS officer Noor Mohammad lives at East End Apartment with his wife Salma Noor and 94-year-old mother.

The couple had gone for work by 9.30 am on Thursday, leaving behind his mother and two servants.

The maid who had been employed at the house for the last one-and-a-half years also looked after the elderly woman.

She lived in the servant’s room. Girish had been employed much before that.
Salma returned home around 12.30 pm to find the doors of the maid’s room open.

Victim found naked

The unclothed woman was lying dead on the bed. She had strangulation marks on her neck.Police were informed and she was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.

“We registered a case of murder and began questioning the members of the house. We found the male servant’s response suspicious and he confessed to have killed her after a sustained interrogation,” said the officer.

He was immediately arrested. It has emerged that Girish fought with the victim often over trivial issues.“The man was angered over a petty issue and strangled her after a quarrel,” the officer added.
