By-polls next month for 4 Assembly seats

By-elections for four Assembly seats in Rajasthan will take place on September 13.
These seats fell vacant after the sitting MLAs were elected to Lok Sabha.

The Election Commission on Saturday announced that by-polls will be held for Nasirabad, Weir, Kota (South) and Surajgarh Assembly constituencies on September 13.

Chief Election Officer Govind Sharma said a notification will be issued on August 20, after which candidates will be able to file their nominations.

The last date for filing nominations is August 27, and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is August 30.

Sharma said counting of votes will be done on September 16. He said with the announcement of by-polls, the model code of conduct has also come into force. But the provisions of the code of conduct will be restricted to particular constituencies and districts.

More than 950 polling stations will be set up for the by-polls in all the four constituencies, which include 242 critical polling booths.

Initially, BJP legislators Sanwar Lal Jat won the Assembly elections from Nasirabad seat, Om Birla won from Kota (South), Santosh Ahlawat from Surajgarh and Bahadur Singh Koli represented Weir seat.

All the four leaders were fielded to Lok Sabha after the recent general elections, leaving the seats vacant.
