Rape accused will be booked under Goonda Act, says IGP

Inspector General of Police (Western Range) Amrit Paul has said that if necessary Goonda Act will be invoked against accused in rape cases. He was addressing a press conference here on Thursday.

Speaking further, the IGP said that 11 cases have been registered for related illegal cattle trafficking in the district and 16 have been arrested. Around 229 illegal sand transportation incidents were found and Rs 53 lakh has been collected as fine. About surrendering of Naxals, he said that the process is under progress. Mass combing is going on, but there is not much publicity as it is in the beginning stage, he said.

Replying to a query about the transfer of the SP, he said that transfer is common in government jobs, but there should be a strong reason. “I am collecting information about officers,” he said. About the link between Malnad and underworld, he promised of going through the matter and convening a meeting of officials soon. 

He said that public interaction programmes are helping to understanding the working style of the officials. In Chikkamagaluru, people have appreciated the work of the department. They have welcomed Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act. Many have complained about increasing atrocity against women and reckless driving, he said.

SP R Chethan said that the IGP said that meeting of every schools and colleges has been convened and Children’s Protection Officer has been appointed to every police station. They will visit schools and colleges every month and if necessary meetings will be convened in respected station-limits.
