Karunanidhi’s statement is seen as a move to avoid controversies at the forthcoming World Classical Tamil Conference in Coimbatore in June 2010.
The first major preparatory meeting here on Friday for the conference included members of 21 committees set up by the Tamil Nadu government to oversee various aspects of the global meet, representatives of political parties and media editors.
Karunanidhi made it clear that his latest remarks on the previous BJP regime’s role in delaying the decision on classical status to Tamil had been misconstrued.
He said he had not blamed Vajpayee regime in particular, for delaying that decision.
