'I want people to remember me'

ORIGINAL SCRIPT

'I want people to remember me'

One of the first things that got actor Raghu Mukherjee to sign Male Baruva Munna was the fact that the story was written by director Rathnaja. Raghu says it’s the originality of the script that caught his attention. “It is well-researched and straight-from-the-heart. The character that I play is written very well,” feels Raghu.

He informs that the story deals with how people handle their past. He points out that everybody has a past which they would either want to remember or not recall at all. “Is the past worth carrying forward? Is it logical to get stuck in the past? These are just some of the questions that are raised in the story,” states Raghu. The director put things rather subtly in the story, says Raghu.

The model-turned-actor confesses that he has always been a director’s actor and likes to be moulded according to the director’s wish. “Rathnaja is pretty sure about what he’s looking for and knows exactly what he wants. He tells you when to pause and which words to stress upon.

He wouldn’t even allow us to use an alternate word in the dialogues. He has focussed on the smallest of details and is working towards getting it perfect,” reasons Raghu, who confesses that he enjoyed working on this script. The movie also has veteran actress Suhasini essaying a prominent role and is the debut Kannada film of Malayalam actress Avanthika Mohan.

A lot of things have changed for Raghu after Super Ranga in which he played a substantial role alongside Upendra. He was also noticed for his role as a cop in Akramana and Aryan opposite Shivarajkumar. “These were big canvas films and things have begun to get better after that. I am enjoying the phase that I am in and there are some realistic subjects are coming my way,” he states.

Raghu thinks his biggest strength is to be able to say ‘no’ to something he’s not comfortable doing and he makes sure he concentrates only on one film at a time. He doesn’t believe in doing films just for commercial success. “I want people to remember me for my roles. I would like to do realistic films rather than portray a larger-than-life character,” he signs off.
