Younger sister's fiance rapes woman from NE

She also suffers facial injury in attack, culprit caught

A 29-year-old woman from the northeast was allegedly subjected to sexual assault and suffered facial injuries during an attack in south Delhi’s Safdarjung Enclave on Wednesday. The accused, her sister’s fiance, has been arrested, police said.

The victim hails from Arunachal Pradesh and lives with her younger sister in a rented house at Humayunpur.

She told police that her sister’s fiance barged into her room around 5.30 am on Wednesday.

“The accused forced himself on her. When she resisted the sexual assault, he inflicted injuries on her face,” said a police officer.

The woman approached Safdurjung Enclave police station around 6 am on Wednesday.

The accused, who also hails from the northeast, was detained in another room of the house.

The woman was subsequently sent for a medical examination, which confirmed sexual assault.

A case of rape and causing hurt under Indian Penal Code has been registered with Safdarjung Enclave. She also underwent treatment at Safdarjung Hospital.

In her statement, she told police that she came to the capital in February 2014, and had been working with a call centre in Gurgaon.

Her sister is a research scholar in Noida, while the accused works with a private company in central Delhi’s Patel Nagar.

The accused lives in a rented house at south Delhi’s RK Puram, but often stays back in the house with her sister.

On Tuesday, the trio had dinner after which the victim went to sleep in her room and the accused slept in the victim’s sister’s room.

Early on Wednesday, he barged into the woman’s room and threatened her with dire consequences if she tried to raise an alarm.

The woman suffered facial injuries in the attack, but still the accused returned to her sister’s room.

Her sister found out about the attack only after police came to the house. The accused was produced before a court and sent to Tihar Jail on judicial custody.
