AIADMK supremo J Jayalalitha’s meeting with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Sunday here drew severe criticism in Tamil Nadu as various political parties on Monday questioned the timing of the interaction.

The meeting was held when the disproportionate asset case against the former chief minister is still pending before the Karnataka High Court. Jaitley, who was on tour to Chennai, met Jayalalitha at her Poes Garden residence on Sunday evening. Both leaders said the meeting was a just courtesy call, which lasted about 40 minutes. “When Jayalalitha’s appeal is pending in the court, is it the proper time for a Union minister to go to her residence,” DMK president M Karunanidhi said.Refusing Jaitley’s claim, the DMK chief said, “How will the people believe it.”
