BBMP budget in Feb-end or early March

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has decided to table the budget for 2015-16 in fourth week of February, or first week of March.

With the State government mulling over postponing elections to BBMP, highly placed sources in the Palike said that the officials had been directed to prepare the draft budget by February 10, so that necessary changes can be made. Budgetary provisions this year, are likely to be lesser than last year, sources added.

As the term of the present elected body will come to an end by April 22, corporators are in a hurry to get the works sanctioned at the earliest, so that tendering process could be initiated soon.

A senior corporator said early budget was planned in view of government’s possible decision not to hold Palike elections on time and drag it on for an indefinite period. 

Tabling budget at least two months prior to the end of the term of the present elected body will help making provisions for ward-wise grants, salaries of the employees, programme of works and spillover works, the corporator added.
