BU identifies 30 centres for research

Last Updated 04 February 2015, 19:51 IST

Candidates interested in enrolling for research work this year in Bangalore University will get another opportunity to do so in six months from now.

This year, the university saw a huge rush for PhD courses and the university departments have been unable to meet the demand. The number of research guides are far too few compared to the number of applicants.

In this light, the university has identified some of the departments in selected affiliated institutions which will be recognised as research centres. Candidates can apply for PhD courses in these departments.

Addressing mediapersons here on Wednesday after the university Syndicate meeting, Vice Chancellor Prof B Thimme Gowda said that the university had identified 30 such research centres already and would identify some more. Two teams constituted by the university are assessing such centres before finally recognising them as research centres.

According to the Vice Chancellor, once the centres are finalised they would invite applications again (within six months from now) and the admissions would be conducted for PhD courses in these research centres, in compliance with the university's admission procedure.

Convocation certificates

The syndicate also decided that the varsity would from now on ask students to apply for convocation during application for final year exams itself. This decision has been taken as the university found that several candidates failed to apply for their degree certificates after completion of the course and there was a huge backlog of such certificates in the university.

With the new procedure, the students would have to apply for their certificates while applying for the exam itself and hence even if the student could not attend the convocation in person, their certificates would be sent to the respective colleges.
