Apparently concerned about “negative publicity” of its government in Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party (SP) has decided to aggressively use the social sites to inform the electorate about the performance of the Akhilesh Yadav government in its three year stint.

The SP government will be completing three year in office on March 15. The party has planned to make use of social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter besides the other traditional methods to reach the voters, especially the younger ones, according to the party sources here.

Sources said that Akhilesh, who was quite active on the social media sites, has asked the party leaders to use the social networking sites to reach the people.

“We have not been able to convey to the people of the state about our achievements while our opponents have been using such platforms to tarnish our image”, said a senior SP leader here.

“The SP government has done so much in these three years...we have plenty to showcase to the people”, the leader remarked pointing to the launch of the Lucknow Metro, the massive recruitment drive as well as the newly launched expressway projects.

The state government had been aggressively publicising its schemes and projects through the newspapers in the state and elsewhere.

Akhilesh had also said in the past that his government was lacking in publicising its work. “A strong presence on the social sites will also help us effectively counter a negative campaign by our opponents”, the leader asserted.

The chief minister has also written letters to the district unit chiefs of the party to ensure that the party workers visit every village.
