DH theatre festival opens with 'All About Women'

The Deccan Herald Theatre Festival 2015 kicked of to a grand start here at Chowdiah Memorial Hall on Saturday. The annual theatre festival provides a platform for various theatre groups to showcase their best.

This time, the festival began with the celebrated play ‘All About Women’ written by Cr­o­a­tian playwright Miro Ga­v­­ran. Presented by popular theatre group Jagriti, it was dir­e­cted by one of the co-fou­n­d­e­rs of the group, Arundhati Raja.

Written in 1999-2000, the play has since been translated into several languages including English, Czech, Slovakian, Ukrainian, Spanish, Lithuanian. Portuguese, Polish and Russian languages. The play has three characters and portrays five life stories of women.

There is one story that talks about two sisters who are in conflict with each other on account of a man they both love; there is another story about two women who are close to each other until a third women enters their lives; a narration of three girls who go to kind­er­­garten together; the one about old women in a retirement home and the story of secretaries working for the same firm, all interwoven together.

Those who missed watching the play on Saturday evening will have another opportunity to catch the same play on February 12 and 13 at Jagriti and on March 3 at Rangashankara. The play speaks of love, friendship, sisterhood.

The next play to be performed at Chowdiah Hall is on February 14 by theatre group Gnatak. Gnatak will present the play ‘Red’ written by John Logan and directed by Mic­h­a­el Joseph. Tickets are available for the play at the MG Road office of Deccan Herald, between 10 am and 5 pm.
