'My dismissal spurred me on'

Last Updated 26 February 2015, 02:55 IST

R Vinay Kumar bagged six wickets in a superb spell to wreck Mumbai, and the Karnataka skipper said he drew energy from his dismissal, a run-out for 17.

“I have got run-out in back-to-back innings. I have been playing well and (I thought) myself and Karun (Nair) will lift the score to 250 or so. I felt really bad after the run-out. I think it motivated me to perform well with the ball,” said Vinay.

Vinay said the team stayed positive despite getting bundled out for 202. “For the last few seasons we have been playing like champions and 200 runs were definitely less. We should have scored 300 or so. Everyone was upset and we had a meeting and decided that we will go all out.

“Getting support from everyone, fielders taking the half-chances and bowlers hitting the right areas…these were the points discussed in the meeting. It is a semifinal game and everyone wants to perform well. We want to win this tournament. This kind of mind-set really helped us to make a comeback,” said Vinay.

Aditya Tare, the Mumbai skipper, said the visitors should now try to get out from the mess. “Obviously, we had a bad day. Getting all out in 15 overs is not acceptable by any means.”

Tare rued couple of umpiring gaffes. “Robin was plumb in front (off Thakur), they would have been 30 for three and probably we would have bowled them out for 100-150, you never know. I also wasn’t out and from there everything changed.”
